Rewiring in Malta

First and second fix for a shell, a renovation or a tired installation — priced by floor area.

First-fix electrical conduit in a Maltese shell-form apartment

A rewire in Malta is two jobs with a wall between them. First fix is the conduit, the boxes and the cable, chased into the blockwork before the plasterer arrives; second fix is the accessories, the fittings and the board, after the painter has been. Sequence is most of the cost, which is why the calculator prices the two separately and why a partial rewire of a finished property costs more per point than the same work in a shell.

Every rewire ends with a test and a completion certificate on the REWS form. If the property needs an Enemalta connection or reconnection — a shell, or a supply that has been off for more than six months — that certificate is what ARMS asks for, and only the authorised electrician who did the work can sign it.

What this covers

What it costs

The calculator prices a rewire per square metre of internal floor area, by specification, using turnkeymalta.com's shell-form lines for this trade — so a rewire quoted here reconciles with the same trade inside a whole-property budget there.

First fix electrics€26/m²€36/m²€54/m²€78/m²
Second fix electrics€24/m²€38/m²€66/m²€120/m²

Per square metre of internal floor area. A villa or house carries a ×1.15 uplift for the longer runs and the external work. These are the same figures the calculator uses, because there is only one rate card — and they are the lines turnkeymalta.com uses for the same trade inside a whole-property budget.

How it works

You deal with us, not with the trade. We visit, we quote a fixed price, we bring in a REWS-authorised electrician from the CheckYourTraders-verified network, and we stand behind the work. One point of contact, one contract, one invoice — and a certificate at the end.

Questions people ask

How long does a rewire take?
A 100 m² apartment in shell form takes a few days of first fix and a couple of days of second fix, with the plasterer and painter in between. A finished property being rewired takes longer because every run has to be chased and made good.
Do I need to move out?
For a full rewire of a finished property, usually yes for the first-fix days: the power is off, the walls are open and the floors are dusty. A partial rewire can be done room by room.
Will you certify the installation?
Yes. Every new installation or alteration is tested and certified on the REWS-approved form, and you receive a copy with the wiring layout, as regulation 14 of S.L. 545.24 requires.
