Sockets, switches and lighting

Extra points, replacements and new lighting circuits — the jobs that make a flat work.

Recessed lighting in a finished Maltese living room

A new socket is a small job with two prices. On an existing ring with a clear wall it is an hour; chased through a finished, tiled or stone wall with the run back to the board it is most of a morning and a plasterer afterwards. The band on this page covers both, and the site visit tells you which you have.

Lighting points are the same story. A point on an existing circuit is quick; a new circuit for a run of recessed downlights needs the ceiling opened, which is why it pays to do lighting before the gypsum contractor closes it.

What this covers

What it costs

The bands come from Maltese price guides published in 2026. Fittings and decorative accessories are extra; the band is the point, not the lamp.

A band, not a quote: the low end is a straightforward job with clear access, the high end is the same job with the complications a site visit finds. Materials are included where the line says so.

How it works

You deal with us, not with the trade. We visit, we quote a fixed price, we bring in a REWS-authorised electrician from the CheckYourTraders-verified network, and we stand behind the work. One point of contact, one contract, one invoice — and a certificate at the end.

Questions people ask

Can a handyman add a socket?
Legally, no. Adding a point is an alteration to the installation, which S.L. 545.24 restricts to authorised electricians. A handyman may replace a like-for-like accessory.
Do sockets and lights have to be on separate circuits?
Yes — regulation 13 requires socket outlets on circuits separate from lighting, which is one of the things a board test checks.
